In my set of tools I have several electronic devices. I have a temperature gun. This uses a laser to measure the temperature. It’s very useful to tell if a pipe may freeze in winter or if a car engine is functioning at the correct temperature. I have a digital “tape measure”. This bounces a signal off a wall and records the distance. It’s very useful to measure accurately the size of a room, for example. Another device I have indicates if an electrical outlet is correctly wired. It’s very useful when checking wiring in a home. I also have a volt meter. It indicates the current of an electrical circuit, whether a household battery, a car battery, or even the electrical output from an electrical wall socket.

My favourite electronic device is an inspection camera. There is a camera with a light at the end of a long cable. It is also waterproof. But what makes this so useful is the screen. This shows exactly what the camera sees. An inspection camera is a very useful tool which helps locate problems in plumbing or find things that are lost or inspect the inside of machinery or electronics. An inspection camera reveals things we cannot see.

In John 3:3, Jesus says, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” When we become a follower of Jesus our eyes are opened to God’s ways, his will, and his work. Most of all, we know how God’s heart for the world – the Gospel. Paul calls this the message of wisdom in 1 Corinthians 2:6. In verse 7, he says “we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.”

In this world, we are like inspection cameras. We reveal the glorious wisdom of God – the Gospel. We point people to the truth of God’s Kingdom. We declare Jesus is Lord.

Jesus has sent us to shine the light of his love in places where it is desperately needed and to call people to follow him. Pray that today you will be the camera which lets someone see Jesus. For unless they are told, how will they be born again and see the Kingdom of God?
